September Goals

Happy Labor Day! Today I'll be celebrating by working, oh the irony. Normally I'm off on Mondays but I agreed to switch and work for the girl who's off on the weekends. That means I've worked 6 days in a row, including the entire holiday weekend, BUT it also means I get 3 days off in a row next week. So the switch is worth it.

As the first day of a new month it's time to recap my August goals and introduce my new ones. I did really well in August! I completed all my August goals except for one (eat more fruit) so I'm adding $40 to the me jar making my total $490. My favorite goal from last month was the quicker email response time; answering emails as soon as I opened them really helped me control my inbox and helped my stress levels. This is a goal I'm hoping to keep doing for life.

And now on to my September goals. As I mentioned Friday this month is all about growing my blog. I'd really love to have 100 followers by the end of the year so I figured this was a good time to devote time and energy to the blog.

1. Post 4-5 times a week - obviously the most important part of growing this space is by producing content for it. I really try hard to post 5 times a week, but with my nontraditional schedule plus extra crazy hours this month due to a coworker's wedding, sometimes that just doesn't happen. Tuesday - Thursday are usually pretty easy to get something up, but Mondays and Fridays sometimes give me trouble.

2. Schedule/plan posts - This helps me write more creative posts and not just dumb last minute ideas. I've started keeping a running list on my phone of ideas when I think of something that might make a good post so that I have some ideas for when I get writer's block. I'm going to try to devote Sunday nights to planning out my posts and get at least 2 posts written before going to bed, then spend time on Monday writing the rest of the week's posts.

3. Sponsor 3 blogs - I never in a million years thought I'd get to a point where I decided it was okay to spend money on my blog. In fact I've straight up said I wouldn't spend money on this hobby, but then I realized that spending money on a hobby is totally normal. I mean people shell out tons on other hobbies so it only makes sense that I should spend some on mine too. So that being said, anyone have a suggestion of a great blog to sponsor? PS if you're interested in swapping buttons send me an email!

4. Include pinnable graphics - people keep claiming that Pinterest is a great way to grow your blog, but honestly I think I've had like 3 page views ever from Pinterest. This could probably be because I don't include a Pinterest worthy image in each post. I'm going to try and include more so I can stop sucking at gaining views that way. Also y'all should go follow me; I'll follow back!

5. connect with other bloggers - In my short time blogging I've discovered that the best way to grow your blog is to make actual meaningful connections with other bloggers. Bloggers who are friends do the best job of promoting each other and making a new friend costs nothing. Plus sometimes I feel like blogging is like being in high school where everyone is very cliquey and I just want to feel cool and have a bunch of friends.

  1. You won't regret taking the sponsor plunge -- it's a great way to open yourself up to new readers!

  2. Agreed with Becca-- it's worth it! And giveaways too... I know they're "controveresial" but I think they really help get your name out there!

I think of every blog post as a conversation. I hope you'll join in and leave a comment so I'm not just talking to myself.
