Airport essentials

I am so excited to be flying home tomorrow! It'll be my first time back since moving out to Vail last fall. I am totally in love with my new town, but I miss my family and sweet tea. I've already shared my travel beauty essentials with you, but I wanted to share what I consider to be airport essentials.

Sweater - I always get cold on flights because I insist on blasting the air full speed at my face the entire time. I love oversized sweaters like this because they easily double as a blanket without looking frumpy. I have this exact one in a lime color I bought last fall and it is so good I just might purchase a second.
Water bottle - I recently learned you can bring an empty bottle through TSA, and yes I had to twitter ask TSA to find this out. Water is expensive in airports and that tiny little cup of soda they give you on your flight just isn't enough.
Sleep mask - I personally can fall asleep anywhere but not everyone is as sleep deprived lucky as I am. Maybe you don't plan on sleeping on your flight, but since I'm going straight from work to a shuttle to the airport and landing after 10pm I'm planning a nice little nap. This mask cute without being too obnoxious because let's be honest all sleep masks are a little obnoxious.
Cozy tee - I think a solid neutral colored tee and jeans or black leggings is the best travel outfit. You look put together enough for public yet still cozy enough for a long flight or layover. I personally am on a gray kick, but black or white are great choices too.
Portable charger - I hate having to find outlets to sit by in the airport. I'd much rather just bring my own! I have this charger in pink and it is seriously the biggest life saver not just in the airport for all times I don't feel like playing outlet hunt.
Journal - Some people like magazines or books, but I prefer journals for airports. Maybe I'm just weird but I feel like I'm forever making lists; this trip will be a list of things I want to do while I'm home since it might be my last time for awhile. I'm also hoping to do a little bit of blog brainstorming. They're also great because you can write down all your travel info to have in one easy to get to spot.
Tote - This is probably the most important thing on the list. My totes must always be large enough to hold my laptop and regular purse, have a zipper, and good straps. I have a Lilly Pulitzer bag I bought in an Endless Summer Sale a few years back that I'll be using, but I think Longchamps are a very solid choice I'm hoping to invest in soon.
Toms - I think these are probably the best airport shoes ever. They slip on and off but are secure enough for when you need to make a dash to get to your gate on time. A neutral pair is great for when you're traveling light because you can wear them all day on vacation. The ones I've linked have flamingos on them, not neutral, but oh so fun!
Small bag - I like to go ahead and leave all my jewelry off until after I've made it past TSA. I don't want to be the girl that takes 10 minutes to go through because I forgot I'm wearing earrings and have to keep going back and forth. I keep it in a smaller bag inside my tote so I can easily put it all back on once I've made it past.

What do you think is an airport essential?

  1. I always bring a journal on flights, too! Like you, I'm making lists, brainstorming, and journaling.

  2. What a fun blog post! My friend just recently bought the water bottle you mentioned, and she is a big fan!

I think of every blog post as a conversation. I hope you'll join in and leave a comment so I'm not just talking to myself.
