Hello, I am a blogger

Hello, I am a blogger. Well calling myself a blogger may be a little forward; I'm really just a 20something who enjoys writing a blog. This little lifestyle blog has been my hobby for a little over four years now, something that I never would have predicted when I started. I write about my life, the good the bad, the funny and sad. I try to be authentic and not hold back which is a funny concept when you consider I write this for anyone with Internet access to read.

I am a blogger, and I have about 100 similar photos saved on my phone

If this is your first time reading, welcome. You're probably here because you actually know me in real life and saw my announcement. So why did I keep my blogging habits a secret for so long from everyone I know in real life? It wasn't because I write scandalous things I don't want anyone to see. Or because I'm embarrassed and worried this would turn into a hate read for people, okay maybe just a little bit. Honestly I thought I'd keep it up for a few months tops and by the time I realized I actually really enjoy coming here to share my thoughts it seemed a little late to suddenly share with everyone. I also just wanted to prove to myself I could create a successful blog. I am so lucky to have so many great people in my life who are supportive of everything I do, and I knew my blog would be no exception. I didn't just want people to read my blog because they knew me and liked me; I wanted people to read because they liked what I wrote.

So here I am four years later saying, yes I can manage a successful blog. People follow along because they like what they read, not just because they know me. And now that I've proved that to myself I'm excited to share this space that I pour so much of myself into with everyone I know. I'm excited to see where this new support will take me. Just know I appreciate you no matter if this is the first and last time you'll ever read, or if you decide to come along for the ride and read every post.

Currently I'm

Planning ..... Two trips this fall! One to Dallas in October and one to Vegas in September. If you have a favorite Vegas hotel or Dallas Airbnb let me know!

Watching ..... Nothing. I just finished Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix so I'm looking for something similar to watch next. If only Netflix would add one of these

Eating ..... Strawberries! I seriously cannot get enough of them

Listening to ..... The Avett Brothers in anticipation of their Red Rocks concert Saturday night! I may or may not tweet at them all week requesting my favorite song

Wanting ..... Too many things from the NSale. I bought some Kendra Scott earrings I've been wanting forever, but I'm trying to hold off on the rest of my wish list

Excited about ..... my Instagram growth! I've been working really hard to build my following and engagement and I couldn't be more thrilled with my growth. I've even made it to the top 9 posts for some hashtags

Loving .... These Carpool Karaoke videos

What's currently going on in your life?

5 artists I would love to see in concert

For my birthday my boyfriend bought us tickets to see the Avett Brothers at Red Rocks. To say I'm pumped would be an extreme understatement. They're one of my favorite bands from college that I missed whenever they came to town. Plus Red Rocks is supposed to be one of the best concert venues in America. I'm also in the process of planning a trip to Vegas to see Britney Spears' Piece of Me show later this fall (send any recommendations my way!).

These two shows have me thinking about other artists I'd love to see in concert. One of my 50 in 500 goals was to see a concert because honestly other than free town concerts I haven't been to that many. I've thought about some of my favorites and came up with the following list.

1. The Beatles - Okay so I know this one is impossible, but it's such an intense desire I had to include them. The Beatles are my favorite band of all time. If I ever had the chance to go back in time I'd probably use it to attend one of their concerts and belt out the lyrics to all their songs.
Favorite Song : let it be

2. Justin Timberlake - I've loved JT since his bleach blonde curls days. I think he's probably the number one most talented person of our generation. You have to have serious respect for someone who successfully transitioned from boy band member to solo adult.
Favorite Song : that girl

3. George Strait - The man that made me a country music fan. My parents saw king George in concert when I was little and they still talk about how great he was.
Favorite Song : write this down

4. Taylor Swift - I've actually seen TSwift in concert and it was the best concert I've ever seen. Even though I'm not a fan of her as a person, she is one of my favorite artists. I'd love to see her in person again.
Favorite Song : should've said no

5. Fleetwood Mac - I've long been a big fan of Fleetwood Mac. Rumors is one of my mom's favorite albums so it was always a family favorite to be played in the car.
Favorite Song : you make loving fun

Which artist would you love to see live? What's the best concert you've ever attended?

Out West Wednesday : a review of Mountain Standard

I continue my culinary tour of Vail this week with a review of Mountain Standard. Mountain Standard is actually the sister restaurant of Sweet Basil, the Vail restaurant I reviewed last week. I really appreciated the upscale rustic yet relaxed vibe of this restaurant; they're known for their open fire cooking method. Plus how could anyone not love a restaurant with a pig etched into their water glasses!

I started with a cocktail, because why would you indulge in a treat yo self lunch without a cocktail. This is what they call the Spring Chicken, a lovely drink of gin, blackberry, lime, cucumber, egg white, and st. germain. It tasted just as good as it looked. I especially loved the glass it was served in, a less pretentious martini glass.

For my main course I had the Rotisserie Chicken Breast at the suggestion of our server. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the real star of the plate was the miso peanut sauce. It was such a unique flavor I can only describe it as yummy.

To finish I chose the ice cream sandwich. Refreshing mint ice cream in-between two chocolate disks topped with a dollop of whip cream. The perfect way to end a delicious meal.

Mountain Standard is on my must visit again list for sure. Next time I don't know what I'll order, other than I for sure have to have some of their onion rings.

companies I'd love to sponsor me : Part 2

A long time back I wrote a post about 5 companies I'd love to have sponsor me. I feel like sponsored posts in the blog world are becoming more subtle, but they do still exist. While I'm sure I'm a far, far way from getting any of these companies to throw a sponsored opportunity my way, a girl can dream.

1. Southwest - I've got the travel bug bad and would love nothing more than some free airline miles. I mean I'd accept a free flight from anyone, but Southwest is my personal favorite airline. The places I'd most like to cash in my free miles towards would be to go back for an Ole Miss football game, New York, and Las Vegas.

2. BlueMoon - Blue Moon is by far my favorite beer. It just feels like I'm drinking summer time sunshine. I could write posts about how to beat hangovers and what BBQ dishes pair the best. Who says pretty girls don't drink beers.

3. Nordstrom - I know, I know. A blogger who loves Nordstrom? shocking! But in all seriousness I really do shop at Nordstrom more than any other department store. They have great customer service, a large inventory, and always free shipping and returns.

4. The Town of Vail - My love for Vail has already been proclaimed, how cool would it be to get to be sponsored to talk about the place I call home. I'd do it for the measly price of a guaranteed parking spot in the Lionshead parking garage come winter (preferably on level two.)

Who would be your dream sponsor?

PS : check out part 1 here!

summer 2016 playlist

I'm not looking to get political on this little space, but quit frankly the state of our world is not great right now. No matter your political, religious, ethnic, or racial leanings I think we can all agree we could use a little more kindness and love in our world. I don't have the answers, but I wish someone did. My favorite quote is "be the change you wish to see in the world," and while I can't make everything better I do know our world needs some more happiness. One thing that always makes me happy is a new playlist, so I thought now was the perfect time to share my summer 2016 playlist.

What songs are you loving right now?

Out West Wednesday : a review of Sweet Basil

I had such fun writing my review of the Vintage I thought I'd continue to share my reviews of places to eat in Vail.

One of the most recommended restaurants in Vail is Sweet Basil, and after one trip it's easy to see why. I got to dine at Sweet Basil a couple of times during the off season when they were running special pricing, and I was more than impressed.

We started with a salmon dish with flash fried avocado that was simply delicious. I would never normally order fish, but I'm so glad the friends I went with choose it because it was the perfect light start to our meal.

Next came the Colorado Burger featuring Fat Tire Beer queso. I can't even begin to describe how delicious this burger is; it was so good the first time I ordered it the next time I visited as well! It came with the most delicious bread and butter pickles and perfectly crisp french fries. My mouth is literally watering just thinking about it now.

And to finish it I ordered the Strawberry Tart, because I'm a sucker for anything pink. The cake part was a little harder than I would have made it, but was the perfect accompaniment to the delicious strawberries and ice-cream. After so much food it was the perfect not too sweet, almost savory end to a meal.

I would recommend Sweet Basil for any special occasion in Vail. The staff was attentive and friendly with a great knowledge of the menu. I can't wait to go again in the fall when they hopefully have another specially priced menu that better fits into my budget.
