5 places I want to visit this year

Maybe it's the cold weather but I'm dying to take a vacation. Even though I just went home last week that doesn't really count as a vacation. I'm craving a hotel stay with fun touristy activities filling the afternoon followed by dinner and finally cocktails in the hotel lobby bar. Plus I could use some more good filler photos for Instagram. Here are 5 places I want to visit this year.

1. Washington DC - Starting the list with the trip I already know is going to happen this year. One of my sorority sisters is getting married in June which gives me the perfect excuse to visit my favorite city. I'm planning to tack a couple of extra days onto the end of the wedding weekend so I can visit the museums.

2. Las Vegas - I loved Vegas when I visited last year! I knew after my first trip that I'd want to go back, so when I saw that George Strait is playing the day before my birthday I thought it'd be the perfect time. I just need to find someone to go with me.

3. Disneyworld - I haven't been since I was 12 and I'm dying to go back and relive the magic. When I was little we went one May during a flower festival and it was beautiful, but I'm really hoping to go at the end of October to see it decorated for both Halloween and Christmas!

4. Disneyland - Can you tell I have the need to escape reality and feel like a kid again? I've never been to California and I think a trip to Disneyland is the perfect excuse to visit. Plus the flight to LAX is pretty easy and relatively inexpensive from Denver.

5. Mexico - Maybe 2017 will be the year I finally get to use my passport? While I'd love to go to Europe I just don't think it's in the cards for this year. A warm, sunny all inclusive resort could be just what the doctor ordered. Plus these vacations are relatively inexpensive!

Where are you hoping to visit this year?

BaubleBar for Target

I'm sure you've heard by now that BaubleBar has teamed up to make a collection for Target! When I first heard about the collection I was a little hesitant; BaubleBar is already inexpensive so an even less expensive line had to mean the quality was horrible. But while I was home this week I had the chance to make it to Target and check out the collection myself. I'm so excited to report the quality looks as good as the regular BaubleBar products. Most items are in the $12 - $16 price range making this a great buy! A few of the pieces look identical to past pieces BaubleBar has sold at higher prices.

I've rounded up a few of my favorite pieces from the collection to share today.

New Playlist

When I say new, I mean new to you. I've been listening to parts of this playlist since the fall (hence its name ) and I'm still not tired of it. I added a few new songs and now I'm sharing it with you. I'm back home in Mississippi for a few days visiting my parents so a lazy post like this seemed perfect.

What songs are you loving right now?

30 things I love

Last week I shared my theme for the month of February was Self Love, and since then I've really been trying to put that theme into action. I came to the conclusion that this is really more about doing lots of little things than big grand gestures. I want to love myself daily in small ways instead of just hugely one time. So I've made a list of 30 things I love. My plan is to indulge in at least one a day for the rest of the month.

1. Extra hot showers
2. Naps
3. Instagram
4. Fresh flowers
5. Iced vanilla lattes
6. Talking about Ole Miss
7. Phone calls with my mom
8. Jamming out in the car
9. SmartWool socks
10. Polar bears
11. Rainy days spent inside
12. Baked goods scented candles
13. Long lunches
14. Traveling
15. Queso dip
16. Old movies
17. Blogging
18. New bottles of nail polish

Currently

Currently I'm

Reading ... First Women by Kate Andersen Brower. I'm a politics junkie, and I'm especially fascinated with First Ladies, so this was an obvious must read when I first heard of it

Drinking ... Emergen C. The doctor who serves our hotel always brings packets when he does house calls. I think my favorite is the orange flavor because I feel like I'm drinking healthy orange soda

Listening to ... Water under the Bridge. I obviously love the Adele version, but I'm really into this acoustic version

This Valentine's Day playlist is also pretty bomb

Anticipating ... my trip home next week! Can't wait to drink gallons of sweet tea

Watching ... Gossip Girl, again. Clearly I'm in need of some Netflix recommendations

What are you currently up to?

Theme for February : Self Love

I'm not going to lie, January was not an easy month for me. I felt like I never came up for air from the holiday madness. From working on my days off to working 9 hour days I was just exhausted. The only thing flourishing was my bank account. While having more money is always great I was too tired and miserable to enjoy any of it. So deciding my theme for February was a no brainer.

This month is all about self love. I'm going to focus on getting enough sleep each night, eating more fresh fruit and vegetables, and just relaxing. If I don't get around to writing a post I'm not going to beat myself up about it, hence why it's a week into February before I'm posting this. I'm going to take more me time and not feel guilty about it.  I'm also going home to Mississippi for a few days at the end of this month and I couldn't be more excited about it! I think just getting a hug from my mom will make me feel 100 times more refreshed.

What are your goals for this month?

Out West Wednesday : a review of Hooked

I'm excited to bring you the next installment of my Vail restaurant reviews. Hooked is actually in Beaver Creek Village, but worth the trip over even if you're staying in Vail. Growing up on the water, I am VERY picky about my seafood and honestly refused to eat at Hooked for such a long time. But a friend had just gotten a new job and wanted to celebrate so I reluctantly agreed to go. I'll so glad I did because Hooked is now my go to recommendation in Beaver Creek!

The dining concept is so fun. They bring out a tray of fish, like we're talking the whole raw fish, and describe the flavor palate of each. You pick one and then they prepare it half raw and half cooked to give you a variety of flavors to experience. You can request certain preparations for each or just let them do what they think is best. We were sitting at sushi bar so we decided to just let them do what they wanted and y'all every single thing was delicious!

When we started I thought the only thing I'd eat from the raw half was a few pieces of the sushi rolls, but I ended up eating everything. I've always been the girl that insists everything is inside my sushi rolls because I don't want to know I'm eating raw fish, but I'll have you know I ate straight pieces of raw fish. I was a little nervous at first, but the sushi cooks did such a great job explaining everything as we went after a few pieces I was happily grabbing for it every time they set down a new plate.

After the raw half they bring out the cooked half. Our fish was prepared three different ways, all of which were delicious! My favorite way was the blackened because the outside was so nice and crispy.  We also ordered a side Brussel Sprouts but honestly only picked at them because we had so much fish to enjoy.

If the idea of eating an entire fish isn't your thing, honestly totally surprised I was so adventurous and it was my thing, they also have a regular menu. It was a little pricey but such a fun thing to do especially with a group because everyone is essentially eating the same thing making it easy to split the bill.

the best Valentine's Day gifts for everyone

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! Even though I'm single, and have been for every Valentine's Day in my life, I still love this holiday. Call me cheesy, but I love the idea of love. Valentine's Day is about so much more than just romantic love; it's about love for your fellow man. I can't think of a time when we needed more of that in our world than now! I've rounded up the best Valentine's Day gifts for everyone!

Everything on here is very pink and girly, but there are great options for the men in your life too! Here's the male version of those slippers, which are the most comfortable ones I've ever put on my feet. And that water bottle comes in tons of different patterns, pick your favorite and fill it with candy for the perfect gift for anyone on your list.

Refuse to sellout to the commercialism of a "Hallmark Holiday?" Take the time to call your grandmother and tell her you love her or just do a good dead like holding the door open for the person coming in behind you.
